DAY PROGRAM
Day 1:
At 07:00 hrs you will be picked up at your hotel.We leave with 4-wheel-drive SUV's direction Baakaboto. This 3-hour tour takes you through the savannah, forest, alongside an operating bauxite mine and an alumina plant. At Brownsweg (Maroon village) we make a short stop, then continue through Atjoni toBaakaboto. Baakaboto is a Maroon village located on the Baakaboto rapids in the river Suriname. Estimated time of arrival 11.00 hrs. After this we explore the area and explaination on the local population and their traditions is given. Then we will relax in the rapid with its delicious fresh water. In the afternoon we go by canoe to visit the nearby village Duwatra. Back at our base camp we will spend a pleasant evening on the rocks in the river. We stay in screened cabins with beds and mosquito nets.
Day 2:
After breakfast we depart by boat for a journey towards the reservoir, over the trees in the flooded area that is now the lake. It is an excellent spot for fishing. The most popular fish here is the Peacock Bass also known as the Peacock Cichlids. Fishermen can really enjoy themselves. We will spend the day here swimming and boating and trying to catch some fish. In the afternoon we return to base camp where we can go for a refreshing swim. There is also the possibility of an exciting trip on the rapids or simply canoe on the river. In the evening we have a campfire on the beach.
Day 3:
After breakfast we walk through the forest to a village further upstream on the same Apresinasula rapids. Once here you will experience culture, local environment and nature in all its facets, simply charming. At 12.00 hrs we return to where we started, Baakaboto. After lunch and a swim, we begin the journey back to Paramaribo where we will arrive around 18.00 hrs.
